Clean Lines and Modern Design: Accomplishing Dream Homes

Each client that comes through our door is unique, as is every approach to accomplishing their home improvement goals. Every project brings a fresh and exciting challenge, and we pull from all styles of interior design to accomplish our clients’ dream home. In the past years, we’ve noticed many clients coming to us wanting a “modern-style” interior. Read on for our thoughts on approaching this particular aesthetic.

Sharp and Symmetrical

For this project, the client wanted a modern aesthetic that compliments the natural sunlight that pours into the space. We kept the white walls and installed a linear-style fireplace to draw a focal point in the room. We think the real show-stealing aspect of this design is the symmetrical bookcases that highlight the entertainment center. The matching lighting fixture and leather furniture is an added plus that brings warmth to this cool space!

The client knew they wanted a floor-to-ceiling glass shower in their master bath, but they were stuck on what would be the main focus in the room to pull the space together. We guided them towards this magnificent two-sink vanity with a white waterfall countertop to maintain a modern appearance. The best part: take a look at that glow from the toe-kick lighting! Our client will never stub their toe again making their way to the bathroom.

The goal for this window design was to complement the clean lines of the floor-to-ceiling glass shower doors and flood the room with illuminating natural light. You really feel at one with nature with the backyard foliage right next to the windows! This client stressed a desire for a lot of storage space while still maintaining a modern aesthetic, so we met that need with dark wood linen cabinets that match the vanity. We love the contrast between the white walls and the dark wood! Thoughtfully placed additions including a simple bench and towel hooks really tie together and finalize this space in a minimalist fashion.

Sleek and Modern

(The linear-style fireplace is our personal favorite aspect of this room.)

This particular client has stuck with Douglah Designs through five different home improvement projects over the course of 17 years! We’re honored to know that they fully trust our ability to transform homes in a way that fulfills their ideal vision. This time around, they had recently purchased a new home and wanted to build upon the mid-century modern features already present and morph the space into an Architectural-Digest worthy project.

We accomplished a modern appearance in the kitchen by installing slab doors on all cabinetry. Long, horizontal drawer pulls maintain those clean lines for a cohesive look. Floating wood shelves provide a minimalistic option for daily essentials and decor and with the island in the kitchen being the focal point of the room, we went with a waterfall edge countertop.

We believe that rigorous attention to detail is what ties together the true aesthetic of a project. Our goal here was to have sleek and minimalist metal stair railings that were virtually unnoticeable, but still provided the functionality (and don’t forget safety!) the homeowner needed.

Our passion and expertise allow us to take on any and all design visions our clients may have and then cohesively pull  together everything for their dream home. To see more photos from this stupendous project and many more, please visit our Featured Projects page on our website.
